INSYS icom routers for the extended temperature range

In industrial applications, routers often need to operate reliably even under demanding environmental conditions – such as in freezing temperatures, extreme heat or significant temperature fluctuations in outdoor stations, control cabinets, pumping stations or power plants. For this reason, selected INSYS icom routers are designed to withstand different operating and storage temperatures, depending on the product family and model.

Depending on the model, the extended temperature range allows for temporary operation at elevated or very low temperatures. Please note that temporary functional limitations may occur in such cases. At elevated temperatures, for example, there may be a temporary reduction in the mobile data rate. This protects the device from excessive heating and may occur particularly during periods of increased power demand, such as with high mobile data rates or very poor mobile coverage.

For applications with generally increased power requirements – for example, during continuous data transmission or when using more than 2 LAN ports simultaneously – the extended upper temperature range is not suitable. In these cases, the upper temperature limit of the respective standard range applies.

Overview of our routers’ temperature ranges

MRX routers

Depending on the model, routers in the MRX family are specified for different temperature ranges.

  • MRX LAN, LTE, LTE450 and LTES variants are designed, depending on the model, for -30 °C to +70 °C or -30 °C to +75 °C.
  • MRX DSL variants are specified, depending on the model, for 0 °C to +60 °C or -25 °C to +60 °C.
  • MRX fibre variants are designed for -30 °C to +65 °C.

This makes the MRX family suitable for many industrial and infrastructure applications where different temperature requirements must be taken into account depending on the communication connection.

ECR Routers

The temperature ranges for the ECR family also vary depending on the variant:

  • ECR-EW: -30 °C to +70 °C, in the extended temperature range up to +75 °C
  • ECR-LW: -30 °C to +65 °C, in the extended temperature range up to +70 °C
SCR Router

Similar values apply to the SCR Routers:

  • SCR-E: -30 °C to +70 °C, in the extended temperature range up to +75 °C
  • SCR-L: -30 °C to +65 °C, in the extended temperature range up to +70 °C
MIRO Router

The MIRO routers are particularly suitable for demanding environments with very low temperatures:

  • Operation: -40 °C to +70 °C
  • Extended temperature range: up to +75 °C
  • Storage: -40 °C to +75 °C

This makes MIRO routers particularly suitable for applications in outdoor stations, power distribution or other locations with high thermal stress.

Typical areas of application

Routers with an extended temperature range are particularly suitable for applications in environments subject to frost, heat or significant temperature fluctuations, for example in:

  • Outdoor substations and outdoor distribution boards
  • Control cabinets in energy and utility infrastructure
  • Pumping stations in water and wastewater technology
  • Wind turbines
  • Industrial and mechanical engineering applications with increased thermal stress
