The special machine construction company Brück GmbH & Co KG from Düren, Germany, develops, among other things, perforating presses, strip presses, expanded metal machines and fitting punches that are used in metal processing. Without products created on these machines, a lot would be missing in everyday life: e.g. ceiling profiles, facade cladding, window and door fittings and much more. In such specialised metal processing plants, many process steps are often necessary. A production line can be many metres long and combine tens of control systems. Operation requires close monitoring to synchronise the speeds for material, processing, separation and removal. In addition, the constant transport of material to other parts of the line, such as straightening machines or stacking devices, plays an important role.

Optimizing maintenance operations

In many cases, production downtime can be resolved without the physical presence of a maintenance technician. By analyzing production data, machine conditions, and notifications, the reasons for machine downtime can be identified and usually addressed quickly. Brück offers its customers VPN-based remote maintenance to be able to respond promptly and straightforwardly to downtime incidents. Inside the control cabinets of globally installed systems, an INSYS icom VPN router is installed, enabling remote access for service technicians and securing it with digital certificates. Service technicians can thus access customer facilities worldwide from their maintenance PCs without worrying about the security of the facility networks. This way, problems at the customer’s site can be resolved without the need for expensive and time-consuming travel.
