Looking at the transmission and distribution network, the German gas network currently comprises around 600,000 kilometres of pipelines. Most of the natural gas produced in Germany and imported from abroad is transported to industry and private households. Control mechanisms are necessary at various nodes in this network in order to guarantee security of supply and reliability.
As in many other areas, digitalisation and automation are the key concepts in this sector. Communication from central control centres to compressors or gas pressure control systems and back can be ensured via industrial routers from INSYS icom – including central device management and security for critical infrastructures.
