INSYS icom presents the new Smart Machinery Gateway at the SPS IPC Drives 2018

Regensburg, 15.11.2018INSYS icom, pioneers in the industry and innovation centre for industrial data communication and interconnection, presents integral solutions for Industrial IoT at this year’s SPS IPC Drives at Booth 201 in Hall 7.

As highlight of the trade fair, INSYS icom presents the new Smart Machinery Gateway whose basic elements are intelligent routers. Thanks to their Linux environment (icom SmartBox), a software for edge computing (icom Data Suite) and their feature-rich IoT operating system (icom OS), they have more power than just data transmission.

This is exactly evident for the new icom Smart Machinery Gateway, which makes machines and plants secure, cost-efficient and IIoT enabled. It grants a controlled, secure access to the machines and their data during the total life-cycle for the different users, like machine manufacturers, service providers or operators.

The software icom Data Suite enables the gateway not only for data processing at the site (edge computing), it also turns it into an intelligent protocol converter: The router connects controls and machines locally, e.g. via the industrial protocols OPC UA, Siemens S7/S5, Modbus and CODESYS and can exchange their data also with MES, ERP and SCADA systems.

The company relies on its 25 years of expertise that have been established in the energy market and presents this now on the trade fair in form of the icom Smart Energy Gateway. This gateway will be used for the secure transmission and control of renewable energy plants or the connection of switchgear in a modern smart grid, e.g. via IEC 60870-5-101/104.

Furthermore, the new Managed Service OAM of INSYS icom pledges excellent usability for both, the roll-out or the commissioning of the used Smart Routers with icom OS and the management and maintenance of the devices during operation. This Device Management Software, which has been developed by INSYS icom in-house and is perfectly tuned to the whole INSYS Smart IoT Ecosystem, maximises the control of the devices and accelerates their optimisation. This allows for example to perform updates centrally on all routers at the same time. This saves time and money and provides an overview of all securely connected devices of INSYS icom.

The new router series ECR is positioned between the SCR series, which provides the essential functions for realising simple industrial applications, and the top series MRX, which provides high power and flexibility for comprehensive or more individual applications. In addition to the SCR functions, the new ECR provides Wi-Fi for an operation as access point for local connection or as client for integration into an IT infrastructure. In addition to this, the 4G version offers cellular redundancy via dual SIM and fall-back to UMTS and GSM. The ECR is also suitable for an easy retrofit of existing plants via an extension by an RS485 interface.
